~ Thomas P. Lowndes, Jr. ~

Tom has a small firm located in Charleston, South Carolina and has been focusing his practice on adoptions for 44 years. Tom prefers the atmosphere of a small firm in that he believes that it allows for more personal interaction with his clients, whether they be a birth parent or adoptive parents. You will always work directly with an attorney instead of a paralegal or social worker.

Tom graduated from The Citadel in 1960 with a B.A. in History. He left law school to spend 2 years active duty with the Army. He returned to The University of South Carolina School of Law, where he obtained his J.D. in 1966, and has been a member of the South Carolina Bar since that time.

Tom is a founding member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys (sometimes referred to as “Quad A” attorneys), and also previously served as the Academy’s President. Within the local community, Tom is active with numerous clubs and organizations, including the Charleston Library Society and the Palmetto Guard, and is a member of St. Philip’s Church. He is married with 4 children and 1 grandchild.

~ Emily S. McDaniel ~

Emily began working with Tom Lowndes after being called to change the focus of her practice to Adoption Law. Prior to that, she spent many years working as a corporate and construction attorney. Emily feels blessed to have been led to such a rewarding practice.

Emily received dual BA degrees in History and Studio Art from the College of Charleston in 1994.  She received a JD degree in 1998 from Cumberland School of Law, where she was on the Dean’s List and a member of the Moot Court Board, and an LLM degree from the University of Miami Law School in 1999.  She is a member of the Alabama Bar and the South Carolina Bar.

Emily became an attorney because her passion is helping people.  In the community, she is a member of the Coastal Conservation League and attends the Church of the Holy Communion.  She is in avid supporter of the Charleston Miracle League.  She also serves on the alumni board of her high school.

Emily and Tom will lead their team in providing a full range of legal and social services, all with a personal touch, for both birth mothers and adoptive parents.  In providing these services, we employ a team approach, designed to provide you with the highest level of integrity, competence, professionalism and concern.
